Reference Value Report: Living Wage and 2025 Update for Rural Chad

2025 Reference Value Update Report: Living Wage Report for Rural Chad

Abstract

This report updates the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for rural Chad to 2025. In the original report, the Living Wage for 2022 was XAF 73,234 (USD 116) per month. Between 2022 and 2025, inflation was 15.3%. The updated Gross Living Wage for 2025 is XAF 85,680 (USD 150) per month. This amount consists of a Net Living Wage of XAF 80,999 (USD 142) plus mandatory deductions for social security and income tax totaling XAF 4,680 (USD 8). Mandatory deductions were calculated using the most up-to-date tax laws. Although the living wage for 2025 is higher than in 2022, it is lower than the living wage estimated for 2024. This decline reflects a disinflationary trend that began in the second half of 2024 and continued into early 2025. Since March 2025, Chad has experienced a relatively large deflation rate, with overall prices falling by 6% between June 2024 and June 2025, the reference period for this report. At the same time, the Central African CFA franc (XAF) has sharply appreciated against the US dollar. As a result, we observe an unusual situation: the living wage is declining in local currency terms but increasing when expressed in US dollars.
