2024 Living Wage Report: Living Wage Report for Assam (Dibrugarh District), India
Abstract
This publication by the Anker Research Institute estimates the living wage and income required for a basic but decent standard of living in Dibrugarh district, Assam. Using the Anker Methodology®, the study finds that a family of four needs ₹25,789 ($305) per month as a living income and ₹15,375 ($182) as a living wage. These figures far exceed current minimum wages and poverty lines. The findings are broadly applicable across rural Assam. Notably, Assam produces over 50% of India’s tea, with Dibrugarh having the highest concentration of tea gardens. Fieldwork was conducted in late 2024.
