2025 Reference Value Update Report: Living Wage and Living Income Report for Rural Lao PDR
Abstract
This report updates the Anker Living Income Reference Value and the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for rural Lao PDR to June 2025, by adjusting for inflation since the original 2024 report. As of June 2024, the estimated living income for rural Lao PDR was LAK 5,766,638 (284 USD) per month. Between June 2024 and June 2025, the inflation rate in Lao PDR was 7.2%. Without accounting for inflation, this income would no longer be sufficient to maintain a basic but decent standard of living in 2025 due to reduced purchasing power. The updated living income for June 2025 is LAK 6,181,175 (285 USD) per month.

Abstract
This report provides estimates for the Anker Living Income and Living Wage Reference Values for rural Lao PDR for 2024, as well as contextual background about the country’s geography, demographics, economy, poverty, labor market, and standard of living. The Living Income for rural Lao PDR is estimated at LAK 5,766,638 (USD 284) per month and the Living Wage is estimated at LAK 3,776,085 (USD 186) per month. The report concludes by comparing these reference values to existing incomes and wages and highlighting gaps to living income and living wage.
