The update for 2025 takes into account inflation and changes in payroll deductions since the original Anker living wage study carried out in November 2023 (Voorend, Akinyoade & Prates, 2023).

Reference Value Report: Living Income Report and 2025 Update for Rural Nigeria

This report updates the Anker Living Income Reference Value for rural Nigeria to 2025. In the original 2020 report, the reference value was NGN 138,678 (USD 365). The updated value for 2025 is NGN 430,344 (USD 278). This revision accounts for the cumulative inflation rate in rural Nigeria between June 2020 and June 2025, which was 210.3%. Without adjusting for inflation, the 2020 living income estimate would no longer ensure a basic but decent standard of living for families in 2025, due to the significant decline in purchasing power.
