RURAL PERU - LIVING WAGE & INCOME
This report provides an in-depth analysis to determine the income required by a family to afford a basic but decent living standard. To operationalize the Anker Methodology, normative standards were introduced to finalize the model diet and decent housing requirements. Primary data on demographic characteristics, diet, and housing characteristics were collected during focused group discussions and key informant interviews.

This report provides updated estimates of the living income and living wage for rural Ilocos Sur Province, in the Philippines. The update for June 2023 takes into account inflation since the last living income update report in November 2022 (Dacuycuy, Nario, Khan, Anker & Anker, 2022)

RURAL PERU - LIVING WAGE & INCOME
The Anker Living Wage Reference Value for 2020 for rural Peru is PEN 1,455 per month (USD 372) with a confidence interval around it from PEN 1,325 to PEN 1,597. This is the wage required for rural workers to be able to afford a basic but decent living standard in a typical rural area of Peru. It is comprised of a net living wage (i.e. take-home pay) of PEN 1,266 (USD 372) per month plus PEN 189 (USD 56) which would need to be paid by law in pension contribution and income tax on this living wage. “A living wage is the remuneration received for a standard workweek by a worker in a particular place sufficient to afford a decent standard of living for the worker and her or his family. Elements of a decent standard of living include food, water, housing, education, health care, transportation, clothing, and other essential needs including provision for unexpected events.”

This is the estimated cost of a basic but decent standard of living for a typical rural family in Peru. “Living income is the net annual income required for a household in a particular place to afford a decent standard of living for all members of that household. Elements of a decent standard of living include: food, water, housing, education, healthcare, transport, clothing, and other essential needs including provision for unexpected events” (The Living Income Community of Practice).

RURAL PERU - LIVING WAGE & INCOME
This report updates the Anker Living Income Reference Value for rural Peru to 2023. This was PEN 2,050 (USD 612) for 2020 in the original report. It is estimated as PEN 2,475 (USD 678) for 2023. This update takes into account the amount of inflation to mid-2023 for the country since mid-2020. Accumulated inflation in this period is estimated to be 20.8%. Without counting for inflation, the living income estimated in 2020 would not be sufficient for families to have a basic but decent standard of living in 2022, because the purchasing power of the living income would have decreased.
This report updates the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for rural Peru to 2023. This was PEN 1,455 (USD434) for 2020 in the original report, comprised of a Net Living Wage of PEN 1,266 (USD 378), plus a social security contribution of PEN 189 (USD 56).The updated Anker Gross Living Wage for 2023 is PEN 1,960 (USD 537) per month, comprised of a Net Living Wage of PEN 1,529 (USD 419), plus social security contribution of PEN 431 (USD 118). Inflation in this period was 20.8% and it increased the Net Living Wage. Without accounting for inflation, the Living Wage estimated in 2020 would not be sufficient for families to have a basic but decent standard of living in 2023, because the purchasing power of the Living Wage would have decreased. Social security contributions were calculated using the most up-to-date laws.
