Jabulile Monnakgotla

Jabulile Monnakgotla is a Junior Research Fellow at the Development Policy Research Unit (DPRU) in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. She holds a Master’s degree in Economic Science from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Her research examines labour market dynamics, job quality, inequality, digital economy and the role of institutions in shaping inequality. She has extensive experience working with large South African datasets, including the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, General Household Survey and administrative tax data, as well as designing and analysing primary survey data. Her recent work focuses on platform work, living wage research, informal and non-standard employment, social protection, and the implications of labour regulation for low income workers. Jabulile’s research aims to provide policy relevant evidence to inform labour market policy, reduce inequality, and support inclusive economic development.
