Reference Value Report: Living Wage Report and 2025 Update for Urban Argentina
2025 Reference Value Update Report: Living Wage Report for Urban Argentina
Abstract
This report updates the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for non-metropolitan urban Argentina to June 2025. In the original report, the living wage for June 2020 was ARS 43,827, consisting of a net living wage of ARS 36,376 and social security contributions of ARS 7,451.2 The general price level in June 2025 is 27.5 times higher than in June 2020, implying a cumulative inflation rate of 2,650.4% over this period. The updated living wage for June 2025 is ARS 1,205,404, comprising a net living wage of ARS 1,000,486 and social security contributions of ARS 204,919. Without adjusting for inflation, the 2020 living wage would no longer be sufficient for workers and their families to achieve a basic but decent standard of living in 2025, due to the significant erosion of purchasing power. Social security contributions were calculated based on legislation in force in 2025. They represent a total deduction of 17% from the gross wage (11% for the pension fund, 3% for healthcare, and 3% for social services). Workers earning the equivalent of the monthly gross living wage are exempt from income tax in Argentina. Adding to the complexity of Argentina’s monetary landscape is the existence of multiple distinct exchange rates. For this reason, this report does not provide a living wage value in U.S. dollars.
