Reference Value Report: Living Income Report and 2025 Update for Rural Argentina
This report updates the Anker Living Income Reference Value for rural Argentina for inflation as of June 2025. The general price level in June 2025 is 27.5 times higher than in June 2020, the date of the original Anker living income study, implying a cumulative inflation rate of 2,650.4% over this period. The updated living income for rural Argentina in June 2025 is ARS 1,375,833. Without adjusting for inflation, the 2020 living income estimate of ARS 50,023 would no longer be sufficient for families to achieve a basic but decent standard of living in 2025, due to the significant erosion of purchasing power. It is worth noting that inflation moderated considerably during 2025, falling from an annual rate of 117.8% in December 2024 to 39.4% in June 2025. This decline reflects efforts to bring inflation under control, although it remains high by regional standards. In parallel, despite the downward trend in inflation, the Argentine peso experienced substantial depreciation against the U.S. dollar. The official exchange rate increased from an average of ARS 1,030/USD in 2024 to approximately ARS 1,430/USD by October 2025, representing a devaluation of over 38%. This currency weakening highlights persistent macroeconomic vulnerabilities and uncertainty. Adding to the complexity of Argentina’s monetary landscape is the existence of multiple distinct exchange rates. For this reason, this report does not provide a living income value in U.S. dollars.
