2025 Reference Value Update Report: Living Wage Report for Urban El Salvador

Abstract

This report updates the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for urban El Salvador to 2025. In the original 2022 report, the living wage was estimated at USD 519, consisting of a net living wage of USD 466 and mandatory deductions of USD 53. The updated value reflects the cumulative inflation rate of 5.1% between June 2022 and June 2025. The 2025 gross living wage is USD 546 per month, comprising a net living wage of USD 490 and social security contributions of USD 56. It is worth noting that point-to-point annual inflation in June 2025 was -0.17%, indicating that the general price level remained virtually unchanged over the past year. This stability is reflected in the essentially unchanged living wage values during this period.

This report provides a living wage for typical urban areas of El Salvador. The report uses statistical regressions based on secondary data and results from Anker Living Wage and Living Income Benchmark studies to estimate living wages and living costs for typical urban areas in El Salvador. The Anker Living Wage Reference Value is presented alongside socio-economic data to contextualize the result.
