Reference Value Report: Living Wage Update Report 2025 for Urban Madagascar
This report provides an update to the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for urban Madagascar, reflecting inflation since the original 2024 report. In 2024, the estimated living wage for urban areas in Madagascar was MGA 693,246 (USD 148) per month. This update accounts for inflation between June 2024 and June 2025, which totaled 8.4%. The updated living wage for 2025 is estimated at MGA 707,181 (USD 158) per month, consisting of a net living wage of MGA 590,121 (USD 132) and taxes and social security contributions of MGA 117,060 (USD 26). Deductions from the gross living wage are calculated based on tax laws in effect as of June 2025.
Reference Value Report: Living Income Report and 2025 Update for Rural Madagascar
This report updates the Anker Living Income Reference Value for rural Madagascar, taking into account inflation since the original report. In 2020, the estimated living income for rural areas was MGA 512,693 per month. Between June 2020 and June 2025, cumulative inflation reached 46.6%. Without adjusting for inflation, the 2020 estimate would not provide families with a basic but decent standard of living in 2025, as its purchasing power would have declined. The updated living income for 2025 in rural Madagascar is estimated at MGA 751,633 per month.
